Senator Ademola Adeleke who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun governorship election has dragged the inspector general of police to court.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the lawmaker dragged the police chief to court on Wednesday, May 22 over his arrest and detention in Abuja which took place on May 6.
Adeleke had approached the Osun State High Court, Ikirun seeking for his fundamental rights to personal liberty and right to freedom of movement and the court presided over by Justice Jide Falola ordered the police not to arrest or detain the senator pending the determination of the substantive case filed before it
Justice Falola had said that “a calm sober and judicial wisdom dictates that I allow the order made by my brother, Ekwor J. of the Federal High Court Abuja in Charge No, FHC/ABJ/CR/156/2018 on Friday 3rd May 2019 to continue to operate.
Howveer when the court order was made, Adeleke was arrested, detained and arraigned on issues bordering on his WAEC certificate and Testimonial issued by Muslim Grammar School, Ede.
Adeleke expressed dissatisfaction over the conduct of the police through his lawyer, Barrister Kanmi Ajibola.
He said despite the court order, an arrest was still made.
Also in a 31 paragraph affidavit before the State High court and which was sworn to by the Principal of Muslim High School, Ede. Kalidi Adejare Abass, he gave account of his arrest and the “perpetual physical and psychological torture he was subjected to.”
He claimed that on several occasions, he had been asked to “write a statement implicating the person of Senator Ademola Adeleke but I have refused to cooperate with the police on this.”
The court adjourned the case to June Monday, June 17, 2019.
Meanwhile, Ajayi Shuaib, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Odo-Otin local government area of Osun state, on Thursday, May 16, denied filing fresh suit against Senator Ademola Adeleke, his party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Channels TV reports that a fresh litigation with no FHC/OS/16/19 was on Monday, May 13, instituted against Adeleke, PDP and INEC at the Federal High Court, Osogbo by Ajayi Shuaib on behalf of himself and concerned members of the PDP.
